QR code will not scan

If the camera will not read a QR code, the cause is usually light, size, contrast, or the data inside the code.

Check in order.

  • Wipe the camera lens, add light, move away from glare.
  • Move the phone back a little: the code should fill about half the screen.
  • The code should be dark on a light background. A light code on dark often fails.
  • Keep an empty margin (quiet zone) around the code. If it is cut, print again.
  • A very long link makes the code dense. Use a short link or less text.
  • If a Wi-Fi QR will not connect, check the network name and password, including letter case.

Before printing, scan the code with two different phones.

Questions

Why will a QR code not scan? Most often light, a tiny size, weak contrast, or a cut edge.

Does a colored QR work? Yes, as long as the code is dark and the background is light.

The camera app does not see QR? Turn on QR scanning in the camera settings or use a scanner in the browser.
