If the command is not recognized

Version to install

Node.js 24 LTS. Node 26 is not Active LTS yet, so do not wait for it.

Checked: 20 October 2026.

Steps on Windows

  1. Open https://nodejs.org/en/download.
  2. Download the Windows Installer (.msi), 24 LTS, 64-bit.
  3. Install with Next. PATH is written for you.
  4. Close the terminal and open a new one.
  5. Type node --version.

Check

The answer should start with v24.

node --version

Difference from the old version

Node 22 is the older LTS and it still works. For a new setup, take 24.
