If the command is not recognized

Version to install

PostgreSQL 18. Keep the password you type during setup.

Steps on Windows

  1. Open https://www.postgresql.org/download/windows/.
  2. Download version 18 from the Windows installer.
  3. Type a superuser password and keep it. Leave the port at 5432.
  4. Leave Command Line Tools selected. When setup ends, open a new terminal.
  5. Type psql --version.

Check

The answer should start with 18. If one file is enough, SQLite does not need a separate server.

psql --version

Difference from the old version

PostgreSQL 16 is an older line. For a new setup, take 18.
